Barthe Cortes, Business in a Revolutionist Style

april, 2010

On one of the African blogs of a former Somalian pirate, a picture made with mobile phone was published. In the picture, there is Barthe Cortes with armed BVC workers with their faces covered. They are on a boat near Mogadishu port. Most probably, in this way, BVC protects its ships with a valuable freight during their cruise through the Gulf of Aden. This blog photo has made a media career quite quickly, being published in many African newspapers. Barthe Cortes is an owner of a transport company which consists of airlines and a fleet. He was able to create connections by airway with many, previously inaccessible for other carriers, places in the world. His professional life is spectacular successes interwoven with controversial events that trigger media discussions on Cortes's methods of activity, and speculations concerning his connections with different terrorist or rebellious groups. Cortes himself has never spoken about it.
